You Call That Radio You Call That Radio

Welcome to the YCT

It`s been a year since lockdown began and changed the world forever. As a performer and events organiser everything I had planned was suddenly cancelled so with the help of Morphamish we decided to turn a small audio podcast into a daily internet TV show.

It`s been a year since lockdown began and changed the world forever. As a performer and events organiser everything I had planned was suddenly cancelled so with the help of Morphamish we decided to turn a small audio podcast into a daily internet TV show.

The plan was to broadcast every day of lockdown which I managed to do for the first month or two. I then started taking days off as it became apparent that lockdown was going to last longer than many people had imagined. We have managed to do in excess of 270 shows since March 2020. All available for free on youtube and sometimes Facebook, Twitch and Twitter too. We found that youtube offered us a higher quality service so it is has been there that I have put more of my efforts into recently.

Over the last year we have spoke to artists and interesting people from all walks of life. Our goal is to highlight the incredible talent from the underground scenes in Scotland and beyond. I have been also lucky enough to meet some of my favourite artists on this journey such as Alabama 3, Sleaford Mods, Mary Kiani, Michael Redmond, Martin ‘Youth’ Glover, Gail Porter, She Drew the Gun, Glasvegas, Darren McGarvey, Alan Bissett , Gavin Mitchell, Gary Faulds & much, much more.

We have hosted multiple shows in one day and very, very long shows including our record 100th show which lasted over 10 hours with a variety of special guests. We have held real gigs from real bands in real time from real venues with an interactive audience . We have had album launches, takeovers, pub quizzes, Hogmany specials, Christmas specials, Poetry slams and Fundraisers alongside our usual conversational formats.

We have also branched into new documentary style content and daft comedy skits and my hope is that this year I can do a lot more of meeting my guests face to face , and who knows with a bit of luck, maybe even with a live audience and live music. That’s for the next stage but for now I would like to thank my good friend Martyn for creating this website and all the patreons for their generosity and belief in this building we are building. It’s been a dream come true watching this community bloom and your support and conversations have really helped me get through and I am sure many in the community would echo that sentiment.

If audio podcasts are more your thing then there is 25 episodes available on Apple, Spotify or wherever you normally get your podcasts. This is the direct download link from podiant. Doing all the live shows has taken up most of my time so there hasn’t been as many new audio episodes as I would like but I am working to address that right now. I have lots of unreleased material plus a plan to repurpose some of my favourite shows from the live streams.

This website’s main use is to keep everything together in one place but I also hope to keep a regular blog on here for music reviews, news, upcoming plans and the odd rant. If you would like to be featured or help in any way then feel free to drop me a line on the contact form.

Much love and fingers crossed for a better year and the return of live music ,

Cheers

Mark
